My Face Shape: What Lace Eyebrow Shape Should You Wear?

Updated: Mar 14, 2020

“Knowing your face shape is the first step to creating your most beautiful look.”- Kevyn Aucoin. That quote couldn’t be further from the truth. Many of us are guilty when it comes to using symmetry to properly structure our features. When you look in the mirror have you ever questioned what color should I put on my eyelids? Should I do a winged liner? Should I contour today? What about my brows? These are all valid questions that we have all asked ourselves.

What brows shapes are out there, and which shape to choose?

First, let’s talk about face shape. Your face shape will determine the shape of brows you should be wearing. There are six face shapes:

1. Heart

2. Square

3. Round

4. Diamond

5. Long/Oblong

6. Oval

Heart shaped… You have a more pointed chin. So, having a brow shape that is more rounded with a lower arch will give you a more natural look. If you have a shorter heart shaped face then, a rounded brow with a sharper arch would be best to elongate the face.

Square shaped… With this face shape your jaws are strong, and your forehead is the same distance with your jaw. Having angled brows will create a balanced look. Brows with a sharper be, low arch will be the best choice, or even a curved brow. Curved brows soften stronger features.

Round shaped… So, you want to appear less round by making your face seem longer. Wear a high arch brow. Doing so will draw everyone’s attention up to the peak of the brows, which is creating vertical lines. High arch soft angle or just a high arched brow.

Diamond shaped… Wearing a curved brow will soften your angels. It will make the widest part of your face less wide looking.

Long shaped… Simple, you want to make your face appear shorter. Why not go horizontal? Wearing a flat brow shape will make the face appear shorter. No arch will stop someone from continuing their eye upward.

Oval shaped… The desired face shape. Why? The reason being that the brows has nothing to do with making the face appear more oval. The soft angle shape moves upward, but then gently curves at the top and then back down again.

BUT! Who says you have to follow the beauty laws? Afraid you might get fined? Who cares?! Experiment with different shapes to determine what looks best to you.

How do I find out my face shape?

Finding your face shape isn't difficult at all. You can start by looking into a mirror and pulling your hair back away from your face and ears. It would also be best not to have on any makeup, since makeup gives an illusion. What do you see? Still not sure? Follow these steps below to determining your face shape.

Calculate...

Step 1: Measure the vertical (length) of your face with a ruler. (In this case the total length of the face is 8).

Step 2: Divide the total length by 3. (In this case 8 divided by 3 is 2.67).

Step 3: Measure the length from the bottom of your nose to the bottom of your chin. (in this case 2 1/3).

Results...

If the last number is larger than the first number, chances are you have a long face.

If the last number is less than the first number, chances are you have a round face.

If the last number equals the first number, chances are you have an oval face.
